my pln

I grow my PLN using social media. Outside of grad school, I am constantly using Pinterest to search for new ideas and articles on education. I have two different twitter accounts. One is for my personal use, the other is for my professional use. I follow many accounts who have won edublog awards, as well as others who are highly active in our county. I follow every lighthouse school in the county, to get new ideas. I also am active on edutopia. I try to read and comment on several blogs and ideas, I also try to incoporate what I have learned into my own teaching.

How to use Edmodo

In graduate school, my group was given a task to create our very own PLN. The first step was choosing a platform to use. Being that there are so many different things to choose, this is a very important step. We wanted something that could keep our thoughts organized, and allow for comments and conversations. We settled on Edmodo. Edmodo is like an educational facebook. We created a group, and then within our group created organized folders. Whenever someone found something interesting or beneficial to the group, they would post it under it's corresponding folder. We would also post questions and comments on our main feed. Edmodo is an easy tool to create your own PLN and invite those that you wish to include. You can also join already existing PLN's which are set up as communities.

My Grad School PLN

We already have PLN's in our school!

Remember this...? Probably not! You have all already been added to the Woodbridge PD group. You can find different PD opportunities on this website. Imagine how much this could grow if we were committed to using it. We could post resources for each grade level and technology tools that will be helpful for our students.

We have a school Twitter account that you may access, or send photos and lesson plan ideas to! The next step would be to create your own professional twitter account!

Remember our hashtag is #TeamWoodbridge

Recently we created an Intermediate Teachers Support and Resources Facebook group. This group is for intermediate teachers in our school, as well as teachers in other schools and states to share resources and ideas. You can ask questions or even just reflect on your day!

Other schools have also jumped at the chance to have their own PLN!

Halstead 2.0

This is a website created by the STAT teacher at Lighthouse School Halstead Academy. This website is used to deliver personalized professional development for their teachers. Teachers create videos and tutorials for other teachers in their school. The website is still under contruction, but all teachers will be able to acces this website for their learning.

Just a reminder, sometimes meeting face to face with your PLN is best. Grade level meetings, grade level planning, faculty meetings, attending PDs, and attending conferences all help you grow your PLN.
